VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:

Janice Phillips

     Janice Phillips

We are happy to spotlight Janice Phillips, a Nurse Researcher working at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Illinois. She has been a super volunteer for the Sister Study since 2006.  Janice’s recruitment efforts for the Sister Study have ranged from attending local health events to giving talks about the importance of participating in breast cancer research such as the Sister Study.  Moreover, her recruitment efforts have gone beyond the general message of women participating in the Sister Study to taking this message to minority women and educating them about them claiming their place in the Sister Study.  Janice is passionate about working directly with people and guiding others to obtaining better health and services. As a researcher herself, she understands how crucial it is to gather vital environmental and genetic information in order to learn what factors are impacting the increasing numbers of new cases of breast cancer in all women, and especially in women from minority groups. Not only has Janice attended events as a SpokesSister for the Sister Study, written articles for media outlets, distributed our materials to all eligible women, and educated other health professionals but she has integrated information about this study into her own research presentations. Janice presents her research work at various national events and we are very grateful that she has taken the initiative to incorporate the Sister Study as an example of an observational study that is safe for participants and could make a tremendous difference in the lives of future generations. Janice reaches out to women of all walks of life, race and ethnicity and to all health care professionals serving our communities.  We are very grateful for her dedication to our cause and proud to have her among our family of volunteers. We applaud Janice for her dedication to the Sister Study!
