Sister Study Volunteers
PAT KIRK-McALPINE
Patricia Kirk-McAlpine of Long Beach, California, is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Theta Alpha Omega Chapter, and also active in Blacks in Government.
Pat is one of our special volunteers who has been working diligently to get her community of African American women involved with the Sister Study. Pat is a busy lady with plenty on her plate both professionally and as a volunteer in other projects. But she believes in the importance of African American women being involved in research, particularly for breast cancer. Pat has had personal losses to breast cancer that have deeply motivated her to approach her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority chapter in Southern California and make recruitment for the Sister Study one of their Community Service Health Program priorities. Pat is a public speaker and has carved out time on several large agendas to talk about the Sister Study and encourage African American participation. Additionally, Pat has garnered support from her church, with over 17,000 members, and placed an ad about the Sister Study in their church bulletin. Her volunteer recruitment efforts have ranged from large scale public speaking to encouraging women one at a time to enroll. We are proud to have Pat Kirk-McAlpine among our family of volunteers and applaud her sustained recruitment efforts among African American women for the Sister Study!
Pat is the Director of Contracting for the Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command in Los Angeles. She holds a BA and MBA from Stillman College and Alabama A&M University, respectively. She is also a graduate of the Harvard University, JFK School of Government Senior Executive Fellows Program.
